Sometimes the verb is buried so deep, we have to rearrange the sentence and even change the subject or verb. But it is worth the effort if our goal is clear and powerful prose. Consider the following examples:
The contention of the scientists is that the river is polluted.
The scientists contend that the river is polluted.
Operation of the boat is as follows:
The boat is operated as follows:
or: Operate the boat as follows:
Their arrival will be as requested.
They will arrive as requested.
