Dear Mentor:

What is required for a MS in computers in Canada?

I have completed my BCom. I am an MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional). I am also preparing for Java certification. I have worked with a company for on a few projects and have prior knowledge of HTML, ASP, Java, Visual Basic and all the basic. If I want to do MCA in Canada, what are the prospects and requirements apart from GRE and how should I go about it?

Comp Ed in Canada, India

Dear Comp Ed in Canada:

There is no such thing as the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree in Canada. You would want to pursue a Master's program in Computer Science. The typical requirements include: 4 years of college education in any discipline, a good score on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), and letters of recommendations. With your 3-year degree program, you can be considered for a one-year pre-Master's program, leading to the regular Master's program.

Obtaining admission in Canada is no different from what you would in India: identify a prospective college, complete and submit the application, and wait for a response. You can use the iMahal List of Computer Science Colleges in Canada to identify various colleges. You can use the iMahal College Finder to identify colleges that best match your performance and needs. You can obtain application forms from the college websites or by communicating with them via post, phone, or email. Prospects for admission depend on your academic performance and your performance on the GRE.
