Dear Mentor:

For India, how do I become an ambassador or the president?

I would like to know what are the qualifications required to be an ambassador of India and president of India?

Great Ambitions, Delhi, India

Dear Great Ambitions:

Now here is an interesting inquiry! Time to get started quickly if you have ambitions for either of the two government posts.

Ambassador of India to any country in the world serves as the chief diplomat for India in that country. It is a political appointment. Since the chief executive of India in the Prime Minister, an ambassador of India to any country is appointed by the Prime Minister.

For many countries, to become an ambassador usually requires a degree in international studies, fluency in one or more foreign languages, years of experience in the foreign service, and proven diplomatic ability. Also, in many countries an alternative requirement exists: giving lots of money to help get a President or Prime Minister elected. We recommend you concentrate on the prior set of requirements.

The President of India is the Head of State. The constitution of India lays out the requirements and the process for electing the President. The President is elected by the electoral college, which consists of the elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States. The constitution states that the President must be a citizen of India and must be at least 35 years of age.
